Craft Recordings remastered a run of Stax albums from the original quarter-inch tapes for the label’s Soul Explosion anniversary. Rather than sell the reissues, we asked contemporary artists what Stax had done to them — shot in black and white to sit beside the catalogue instead of above it. The series reframed Stax as a living influence rather than history.
